Bicycle Traffic Light
This is the second dedicated bicycle traffic light I’ve spotted in Sheffield (there is also one crossing the ring road at the junction with Shoreham Street). Both of these examples allow cyclists to use a more direct route than the rest of the traffic and do follow the golden rule of making cycling more convenient than driving, by avoiding tedious one way systems.
Of course it would be...

What is cycle chic?
StreetFilms discuss the growing movement of everyday cycling:
“You can trace the term “cycle chic” back to 2006, when Mikael Colville-Andersen launched his Copenhagen Cycle Chic blog. It means different things to different people, but basically, “cycle chic” is about riding in everyday clothes instead of specialized gear like spandex or cycling...

Spot the cyclist
Of course a trick question, anyone in this shot is could be a cyclist. Only the guy on the right feels obliged to advertise the fact.

Sweat
It is funny that Dottie from Let’s Go Ride A Bike should post this today, because I have been meaning to write this post for ages. Yesterday’s sudden burst of summer weather reminded me why. Woolley tights and a thick winter dress weren’t warm enough for our over air-conditioned office, but when I got out into the sun for my journey home, I was rather overdressed to put it mildly!

Roadworks
This street is marked as a “recommended cycle route”. So what special provisions for cyclists have been made when roadworks are in action?

Bicycle Portraits - everyday South Africans and...
A photographic book.
Project by Stan Engelbrecht / Nic Grobler
“My name is Stan Engelbrecht. A friend and fellow bicycle enthusiast, Nic Grobler, and I recently started a project investigating South African bicycle culture, and the lack of cyclist commuters out there on our roads. We want to raise the funds to turn this project into a self-published full-color hard-cover photographic...

Vintage Raleigh Roadster
I’ve been spending far too much time reading Lovely Bicycle and the glowing write ups that Velouria has been giving her early seventies Vintage Raleigh Roadster. (Along with Cycler at Biking in Heels and Portlandize with their vintage Raleighs). It appears to be catching, for when I saw this bike, I had to have her. So here is my new (old) bike. I’ve decided a bike like this deserves...

The People's Republic
In case you hadn’t noticed Britain is holding a General Election today. Here in “The People’s Republic of South Yorkshire” the map has been almost entirely red for decades, the only exception being Nick Clegg’s (the leader of the Liberal Democrats) seat.
Ironically, this was not long ago a safe Tory seat, but the media seem to have forgotten that. Clegg’s constituency, Sheffield Hallam, is...
